We enjoyed a break away last week & were lucky enough to visit an owl sanctuary. Minnie was fascinated by the birds, so we visited our local library & found this great selection of owl picture books.
Owl Babies by Martin Waddell is a real favourite in our house. Minnie loves reading it & can almost recite it. She still loves using her owl puppets to tell the story.
The Owl & The Pussycat is the magical poem by Edward Lear. Ian Beck's illustrations in this book beautifully capture this classic text. Minnie is loving joining in as I read & has created her own version of 'pea green boats' using her homegrown pea pods! It's never to early to share poetry with children :-)

WOW! Said the Owl by Tim Hopgood is a great book for exploring colours, time, & sleep patterns! The simple text with repeated refrains tells the story of an owl who decides to sleep one night & wakes to discover all the colours daytime has to offer. As night falls though he realises the stars in the night sky offer the most beautiful colours. Bright, bold & colourful, this is a lovely book for all ages.
The Little White Owl by Tracey Corderoy is one of our favourite books.
You can read more about it & see our accompanying activity here.
We love the 'Percy The Park Keeper' series by Nick Butterworth. Each book takes you on a real adventure, & this mini series introduces us to some of Percy's friends. This book is all about Owl (the show off) & what makes him tick! Fun illustrations, facts & poems make this book great fun to read.

Our last book 'Little Owl's Night' by Divya Srinivasan is perfect for little ones who are fearful of the dark. Little Owl observes all the nocturnal creatures & their adventures in the forest during the night & can't understand why anyone would want to miss night time. Great for introducing the concept of daytime & night time, & the changes they bring. The illustrations are beautiful too & will appeal to all ages.
