Advent Calendar for Grandparents - Sharing Precious Memories

Like so many other families, we're really missing seeing Grandparents due to the pandemic, & I know they're missing us. So for Advent we created this special homemade calendar for them to relive some precious family moments each day during December, which I'm sure will bring a smile & share a little joy.

What a strange year it's been, so many things we haven't been able to do, & special people we've not been able to see. I'm really thankful those simple magic moments, & the small things, which are of course the big things really, but I have really missed not seeing family, & more importantly being able to hug them. Such a simple thing, but oh my, how precious is a hug!

We may not be able to hug our parents or grandparents physically, but we're hoping each day they'll feel our virtual hugs as they open each envelope of this Advent Calendar. It really is so simple & frugal to make, all you need are 24 envelopes (we used these) & 24 photos. That's it!

To make the Calendar we printed off 24 family photos; some from years ago, some current & some from our time during lockdown. You could print them on photo paper, card or plain paper. We cut our photos to fit inside our mini envelopes which we decorated with a simple spotty pattern & numbered 1-24.

On the back of the photos we wrote a little note. On some we shared a memory relating to the photo, on others we added invitations like; "Shall we skype today?" or "Lets sing our favourite Christmas carols together over the phone at 4pm."

On the back of one we suggested a "Biscuit Bake off over Zoom" so they could do some virtual Christmas baking together. These photos are not only sharing special memories from the past, but creating precious new ones too. (I made sure I made a note on the calendar when we suggested these things so I didn't forget.)

We added one photo to each envelope & the calendar was complete. So simple!

We're sending our Advent Calendar through the mail so added our envelopes to a small box, alternatively you could wrap the mini envelopes together with ribbon to give as a gift.

If you wish, you could add a length of string & 24 small pegs so they could hang up the envelopes as a decoration, but we decided to place ours randomly in a box so they had a little fun searching for each envelope every day.

I'm sure any Grandparent would love to receive this Advent Calendar & have the chance to recall those precious family moments. Times may be a little strange at the moment, but these magical memories are sure to warm their heart. ♥
