Homemade Heart Soaps

 Make your own mini soaps with this simple activity. Perfect to make as Valentine's Day gifts for friends, or just for spreading a little love throughout the year.

To make our heart soaps, you'll need:
:: Clear melt & pour soap base (SLS Free)
:: Liquid soap dye (available from Hobbycraft or online)
:: Scented essential oil (optional)
:: Heat shaped Ice-cube moulds
:: Jug (microwave safe)
:: Microwave
:: Old wooden spoon & blunt knife

:: Start by cutting your soap block into small sections with a blunt knife.

:: To melt the soap, fill half your jug with the mini soap blocks & heat in the microwave for around 1.30 mins. If some of the soap is still solid, heat for 30 second intervals until melted. The liquid soap is very hot at this stage, so adult supervision is needed. You may wish younger children to just observe this part of the process.

:: To colour the soap, add just a couple of drops of the liquid dye before slowly stirring it into the soap. (If you stir it too quickly, the soap will become frothy.)

:: If you wish to scent your soap, add 2-3 drops of your chosen essential oil to the jug.

:: Pour the liquid soap into your ice-cube trays. You have to work fairly quickly at this stage as the mixture starts to solidify.

:: Leave the soaps to set for a couple of hours & then gently push them out of the moulds.

If you're making these as gifts, wrap the individual soaps in baking paper & tie them with string or ribbon.
