5 A Day Books: Bears

This week our books have taken on a bear theme to go with the MANY teddy bears' picnics we've enjoyed this week!

Week 11: Bears

One Little Teddy Bear
This is a real favourite of Minnie's & was passed on by a friend. 'One Little Teddy Bear' by Mark Burgess, is a counting, lift-the flap book with simple, rhythmical, rhyming text. Count the bears (1-10) as they set off on many adventures through the book, lift the flap on each page to reveal a bear hidden underneath. Fun, bold illustrations with lots to look for & discover. A fun book for all ages, full of surprises
I LOVE 'Orange Pear Apple Bear' by Emily Gravett! It's a perfect picture book for all ages! The simple text consists of just four words, the order of which changes throughout the book to reveal a fun, rhythmical tale. The illustrations are beautifully simple, & go hand in hand with the text, allowing for lots of discussion. A great book for exploring rhyme, repetition, word recognition, punctuation, shape, size, form & colour. So simple, so clever, & so fun!
Can't You Sleep, Little Bear
'Can't You Sleep Little Bear' by Martin Waddell is a perfect bedtime read. Perfect for little bears who are fearful of the dark! Little bear just can't get off to sleep, so big bear finds a selection of lanterns (which increase in size throughout the book) but they just don't help. In the end big bear takes little bear outside to show him that the night sky isn't as dark as he thinks. Great for providing reassurance & comfort, & exploring repetition in the text.
'Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?' by Eric Carle is a children's classic! A great rhythmical, rhyming text, with illustrations that explore colour & a fantastic selection of animals. Big, bold illustrations fill each page. Great fun to read, & a book which children just love to join in with!
Again this is one of Minnie's favourites. 'Goldilocks' by Nick Sharratt & Stephen Tucker is a rhyming, lift-the-flap book based on Goldilocks & the 3 Bears. We had another version of this story, but after finding this book in the local library, this has become a firm favourite. Fun to read, with bright, bold illustrations to explore. Perfect to go with our 3 Bears Story Box.
