Cheese Treats

I love creating in the kitchen & it looks like Minnie is sharing this interest too. I often find her baking & creating in her play kitchen, or making picnics for her toys. It's great when we cook together & it offers so many opportunities for creative expression. We made these cheese treats yesterday to share with friends, the recipe is so simple & ideal for children.

This basic recipe is for cheese straws, but we thought straws were a bit dull so Minnie chose some of her favourite shapes from our selection of cookie cutters.

Recipe for Cheese Treats

What you'll need:
100g plain white flour
50g butter/margarine
50g of grated cheese
1 tablespoon of cold water

What to do:
* Pre-heat oven to 200oC (Gas mark 6)
* Sift the flour into a mixing bowl
* Rub the butter/margarine into the flour using your finger tips, until it looks like fine bread crumbs

* Stir the cheese into the flour mixture
* Slowly add a little water & mix the ingredients together to form a smooth dough (the water will gradually bind the other ingredients together)

* Roll out the dough onto a floured surface

* Cut your chosen shapes out using cookie cutters

* Place on greased baking tray & bake for 12-15mins or until golden brown

* Leave to cool on a wire tray
* Serve, share & enjoy
You could add sesame seeds, poppy seeds, or a little grated cheese to the top of the cheese treats, just brush with a little water or milk & add your chosen topping.
